Important Information: NHS Weight Loss Medications – Tirzepatide (Mounjaro)
The NHS has recently approved a new weight loss medication called Tirzepatide (also known as Mounjaro) for a small group of eligible patients with severe obesity and related health conditions.
While national access to Tirzepatide begins from 23 June 2025, it is important to note that this treatment is not currently available in Coventry and Warwickshire.
Locally, the NHS is developing a new community primary care weight management service that will provide access to Tirzepatide for those who meet the eligibility criteria. This service is expected to launch in autumn 2025, and will include wraparound support such as holistic, diet, lifestyle, and psychological input to ensure safe, long-term results.
Until this new service is available:
- GPs cannot prescribe Tirzepatide or similar weight loss medications for obesity
- Referrals for medication cannot be made at this time, even if you meet the national eligibility criteria
- We cannot continue or transfer prescribing from private clinics
Please do not request this medication during appointments. Our practice team are not currently able to offer or refer for NHS weight loss drug treatment.
When access becomes available locally, eligible patients will be supported through a structured, specialist-led pathway.
In the meantime, if you would like support with managing your weight, our team can provide information about the different options available or you can access further information about the services on the ICB’s webpage Weight Management Services and Pathways - Happy Healthy Lives. All services continue to offer evidence-based support for people living with obesity.

Important Update: Changes to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) Assessments and Treatment in Coventry and Warwickshire
Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) has made important changes to how ADHD assessments and treatment are provided. These changes aim to reduce long waiting times, particularly for children, and ensure services are focussed where they are most needed.
What Is Changing?
From May 2025, the ICB will only commission new ADHD referrals for people aged under 25 years old. This means:
- New referrals for ADHD assessments and treatment will only be accepted for patients under 25.
- Adults aged 25 and over will not be eligible for new NHS-funded ADHD assessments at this time.
- These changes apply to all providers, including Right to Choose services and Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust (CWPT).
- Adults who have already been referred will still receive their assessments and treatment as planned.
- This is a temporary policy while the ICB works on a full review and improvement of the ADHD care pathway across the region.
Why Are These Changes Being Made?
The current ADHD system in Coventry and Warwickshire is under significant pressure:
- Over 7,500 children and young people are waiting for an assessment.
- Some children face waits of over 10 years.
- The majority of current referrals under the Right to Choose pathway are for adults, despite children often experiencing a greater need for early
- diagnosis and support.
- Clinical experts agree that an early diagnosis of ADHD can be life-changing for children—helping them succeed at school, build relationships, and develop essential life skills.
What Support Is Available for Adults Aged 25+?
Adults over 25 who are not eligible for a new NHS ADHD assessment at this time can access other support options, including:
- NHS Talking Therapies: https://www.talkingtherapies.covwarkpt.nhs.uk
- Recovery and Wellbeing Academy: https://www.recoveryandwellbeing.co.uk
- Support for neurodivergent people and families: Happy Healthy Lives Neurodiversity Information
In exceptional cases, where an adult has complex needs or is at high risk, there is the option of an Individual Funding Request (IFR) that can be raised with the ICB.
For further information visit the Happy Healthy Lives website: https://www.happyhealthylives.uk
This policy will remain in place until a new and improved ADHD care pathway has been developed for Coventry and Warwickshire.
